GREEN BUILDING INITIATIVE™ ANNOUNCES FOUR NEW SUPPORTERS
—Arch Chemicals, DAP, the Resilient Floor Covering Institute and Viking Join Non-profit's Efforts to Accelerate Green Building Practices—

Portland, Ore. (July 18, 2007) — The Green Building Initiative (GBI), a not-for-profit education and marketing initiative dedicated to accelerating the adoption of green building practices, announced today that four new organizations have joined its efforts to bring green building to the mainstream.

Representing a wide range of companies and organizations, the GBI's newest supporters include Arch Chemicals, Inc., a global Biocides company who provide innovative, chemistry-based solutions to control the growth of harmful microbes, DAP, a leading marketer of general patch and repair products, the Resilient Floor Covering Institute, an industry trade association of North America manufacturers who produce resilient flooring products, and Viking Range Corporation, the benchmark for gourmet ranges.

These organizations join GBI supporters such as the American Standard Companies, DOW Chemical, the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association (NAIMA), Masonite, U.S. GreenFiber, and the Wood Promotion Network, among others.

As supporters of the GBI, these organizations will enjoy benefits such as access to the GBI's Green Globes™ environmental assessment and rating system, access to a network of like—minded individuals via the organization's "Affiliates Directory," access to the latest green building news and information, use of the GBI supporter logo and recognition by the GBI at industry trade shows and in newsletters. However, supporters do not make decisions regarding the technical content of the GBI's rating and assessment tools-including the Green Globes system.

As the first green building organization to be named a Standards Developing Organization by ANSI, the GBI is now fully engaged in the process of establishing Green Globes as the first American National Standard for commercial green building. In accordance with ANSI requirements, the GBI assembled a technical committee that is responsible for developing, maintaining, approving and achieving consensus on the Green Globes standard for the design, construction and upkeep of environmentally preferable buildings.

Bylaws for the Green Building Initiative are posted on the GBI web site (www.thegbi.org) in accordance with the organization's status as a 501(c)(3) public charity, along with the names and bios of its board members.

"The support of our members allows the GBI to bring innovative and useful tools to the marketplace," said Lori Hardwick, director of development for the GBI. "That's why it's so exciting to see more and more stakeholders show their commitment to sustainability by joining the GBI."

In other GBI news, Minnesota recently became the seventh state in the union to formally recognize the Green Globes system by passing its "Next Generation Energy Act of 2007" into policy, and the United States Department of the Interior also recently approved an implementation plan which formally recognizes the system as a sustainable construction tool for all of the agency's new construction and renovation projects.

These legislative acknowledgments came on the heels of Hubbell's May testimony before the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, where he discussed opportunities to leverage sustainable construction principles to help curb climate change.

On the residential front, the GBI continues to help launch and populate locally relevant voluntary green building programs based on the National Association of Home Builders' Model Green Home Building Guidelines. In separate milestones, GBI supported programs in Southern Nevada and Michigan welcomed their first and 100th members (respectively) in June.
