GREEN BUILDING INITIATIVE™ ANNOUNCES SUB-COMMITTEES FOR GREEN GLOBES™ STANDARD DEVELOPMENT

PORTLAND, OR (August 25, 2006) — The Green Building Initiative (GBI) has taken another step toward establishing the Green Globes™ environmental assessment and rating system as an official standard under the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), by selecting the members of its technical sub-committees to support the ANSI technical committee.

Sub-committees have been created for the seven areas of assessment within the Green Globes system. Each sub-committee is comprised of members from the technical committee as well as volunteers at large, and will operate independently from the GBI Board. The full technical committee has overall responsibility for developing the standard under ANSI protocol.

"The response from applicants was overwhelmingly enthusiastic," said Ward Hubbell, executive director of the GBI. "We're pleased that so many people want to contribute their expertise to the first ANSI-approved process to develop an American National Standard for green buildings."

The GBI's ANSI sub-committees include diverse representation in three categories; users, general interest and producers. Examples of organizations represented include the City of Chicago Dept. of General Services, Massachusetts Div. of Capital Asset Mngt., U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. General Services Administration, American Institute of Architects (AIA), American Lung Association, Steel Recycling Institute, URS Corporation, CH2M Hill, Vertegy, Texas A&M University and Target Corporation.

"The technical committee is excited to see the diversity and caliber of the individuals who volunteered for each sub-committee. Their insights will help to establish the best standard possible," said Thomas Taylor of Vertegy, chair of the project management sub-committee.

Following is a list of the GBI technical sub-committee members within each category:
